The fact is that it is exactly as vital to learn what to avoid as it is to learn what to reach for. Learning from other people’s mistakes can save you a great deal of time and energy. Don’t let avarice and lust control you. The Internet is replete with affiliate offers that are plastered with photos of mansions, yachts, luxury cars, etc and testimonials from beautiful models who claim that they made tons of money almost immediately merely by using the same software that they are trying to entice you to pay for. Try to keep your head about you and do a little research before clicking the “buy” button. You would do some research into any item being so boldly advertised to you offline. See to it that you practice this caution online as well.
Don’t try to do too much too soon. Start small and test things out. Use these minor opportunities to find out what to do and what not to do later on as you grow. For example, start with one easily marketable affiliate product. Don’t produce your own product and affiliate program right out of the gate. Try blogging by yourself before you launch a fully blown subscription based online publication. This way you can get a taste for each project without worrying about getting in too deep and knowing that you truly hate the brand of IM that you have selected.
There are plenty of opportunities for slacking off when you are working from home. Don’t give in to these opportunities. If you honestly think better while working on your laptop computer from the easy chair with the TV on for background noise, that’s totally alright. But if you observe that you’re actually just watching TV and not working, you’re going to have troubles.
